Silver Mounted Porcelain
Silver mounting was done in the Netherlands and England, usually in the 19th century. It was done to embellish porcelain and occasionally to cover a small breakage (such as the spout of a teapot). With tea caddies, it was done to make them air tight, as tea was a precious commodity. The tops were used as measures.
